Boer goats are long, large framed, double muscled and bred for meat and hardiness. They produce more muscling in less time than many other goat breeds. ...did we think that we would ever be raising goats! We adopted two little bottle bucks about 4 years ago. They were not in the best of shape but we had to give it a go. Not knowing to much about goats at the time, we brought them back to health, castrated them and let them have run of the farm. They became more than just pets, they were constant companions. They were the most traveled goats I had ever heard of. Since my husband and I compete in endurance rides, they came along and camped out with the horses and dogs. When they didn't come, we were always asked where they were! They have been to Florida 3 times, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan! They loved to travel!
"Hercules" and "Twister"
Then came the third goat...another bottle baby rescue. A doe this time! We suddenly owned three goats. They shared a run with the chickens and didn't mind a bit! We had learned a great deal more about goats by this time. We knew the two little wethers were Saanen dairy goats and the little doe was a Pygmy cross.
Then.......... as you may have suspected, we got hooked!
I was looking to buy some chickens from an ad I saw up at a local hardware store and when I arrived, I found out they also raised goats. These goats didn't look anything like mine. They had long ears and were as cute as could be. Well, I was now in the market for some Boer goats! I owe a great deal of gratitude to Betsy Muehleip for introducing me to this wonderful breed and her continuous help and encouragement! Without this remarkable mentor and exceptional friend, we would not be where we are today!
Sadly both Hercules and Twister have left us but their memories always make us smile. They were not dealt the best hand when they were born but both lived life to the fullest and loved every minute of it! They are missed every single day!
I guess the rest is history! We have just finished a very busy and successful kidding season. Even though we had some rough weather (temperatures 35 degres below zero!), everyone is doing great and ready for spring! Please check out the goats for sale. Keep checking often as new pictures are posted.
Sometimes we have goats available for sale that are not listed. If you are interested in or looking for something special please feel free to contact us at any time
